Handmade Valentines

In my mind, one of my favorite things about Valentines Day is making handmade Valentines.  When I was little, my mom would get out her box of craft supplies and let us go at it, and we made our Valentines cards for each other with glitter, doilies, scraps of lace and whatever else we could find in Mom's box.  Those memories are happier than the times we picked out a box of tiny My Little Pony valentines at a store and then agonized over which one to give to the boys in our class ;).

This year, I added to the Valentines fun by joining the handmade valentine swap hosted by The Stationary Place.

This time I used cute cupcake liners from Michael's, which are really too cute to use only for cupcakes.  Also a handy heart punch, and a few paper doilies painted pink with watercolors.  I tend to design as I go - which allows for a lot of problem solving. Here, my glue stick was no match for the gold foil paper, so I got out the sewing machine to add some heart shaped stitching to hold everything together.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the table, the boys weren't so interested in making valentines.  Cutting paper into tiny pieces and punching out letters won their attention.

Whatsoever...

I started the year with this on my mind:

It isn't always easy.  But it is important, although it hasn't always been a driving force here.
I want this to be my goal for the new year and see how it makes a difference in my life.

"Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."  Colossians 3:23
